Lake Eyasi in Tanzania
Lake Eyasi nearby the south western fringe of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, the salty, sometimes dry Lake is rammed by the seep wall of the ancient Eyasi Rift. The area around Lake Eyasi is inhabited by the Hadzabe tribe (also called the Datoga). This ancient tribe which is believed to have arrived in the area more than 300 years ago was subsequently forced out of the Serengeti and Ngorongoro by the Maasai.
Their language (nilo-hamitic) is vaguely similar to that of the San bushmen of South Africa. Also in this area are the Iraqw (called Wambulu) a tribe of cushitic origin.
